Welcome to my blog! I'd love to connect and chat about a future session! In the mean time, take a look around the blog! Don't forget to stop and say Hello!
Senior year is such a special time—a mix of excitement, nostalgia, and lots of “lasts” that make you want to bottle it all up. One of my favorite ways to help families celebrate this season is through senior photo sessions, and East Harbor State Park in Ohio is one of my favorite spots to do just that. I loved it so much, I chose this spot for my own daughter’s senior photos! With her being a swimmer, it felt like the perfect fit.
Whether you’re dreaming of sandy toes, golden sunsets, or lakeside vibes, East Harbor gives us all of that and more. Let’s dive into why it’s such a perfect place for senior photos—and how to make the most of your session there.
Here in Ohio, Lake Erie is as close as we come to those white sandy beaches, and East Harbor State Park, is one of my favorite places! The shoreline stretches out with soft sand, gentle waves, shallow water, and beautiful sunsets behind a lovely green backdrop. It’s relaxed, peaceful, and full of those natural backdrops that let your senior’s personality shine.
One of the reasons I love shooting here is the gorgeous natural light—especially in the late afternoon, when everything takes on a golden glow. No matter the season, East Harbor offers unique beauty. Not only can you play in the shallow water, but the trails behind the shoreline make for some great shots as well!
These are a total favorite—especially for seniors who want that laid-back, barefoot-in-the-sand vibe. The dunes give us texture and depth, and the beach offers space to play, spin, or just soak in the view.
There is a lovely sandy trail filled with greenery and sunshine behind the shoreline, which gives us a wide range of backdrops to use for photos.
If you’re into something a little more dramatic, the rocky lakefront areas give us a totally different vibe. These make for gorgeous sitting poses and stunning wide-angle shots with the lake in the background.
Neutrals, soft pastels, earth tones, and denim look so good against the natural backdrop here. Think breezy whites, warm tans, muted greens, and light blues. These tones blend beautifully with the sand, sky, and water without competing for attention.
Comfort is key—especially when we’re walking through sand or climbing on rocks. Flowy dresses, linen shirts, and outfits with a bit of movement photograph beautifully. And don’t forget about wind! It can be your best friend (hello, wind-swept hair), but bring a brush or clip just in case. Also, barefoot is always a good idea on the beach!
Golden hour—the hour before sunset—is pure magic here. The sun drops in the sky and everything just glows. It’s soft, flattering light that makes skin look amazing and adds a dreamy feel to every photo.
Summer is perfect for beachy, sunny sessions. Think bare feet, sun-kissed skin, and longer evenings.
Fall brings cooler air and warm tones in the leaves—plus the beach tends to be a little quieter.
Spring offers fresh blooms and softer tones. It’s great if you want a light and airy feel to your session.
Each season brings something unique, so it just depends on your vibe!
Relax and have fun — This is your time to celebrate you! I’ll guide you through everything, so there’s no need to stress.
Bring a couple of outfit options — This gives us variety and helps you feel your best.
Don’t forget the details — Things like jewelry, shoes, or props (letterman jacket, instrument, or books) can add a personal touch.
Trust the wind and sand — The elements can actually enhance the photos and create real, authentic moments.
If East Harbor sounds like the perfect spot for your senior photos (I think it just might be!), I’d love to help bring your vision to life. Whether you want carefree and candid or soft and scenic, we’ll create something that feels just right for you.
