Welcome to my blog! I'd love to connect and chat about a future session! In the mean time, take a look around the blog! Don't forget to stop and say Hello!

If you’ve ever booked a photo session and immediately thought, “Okay…what are we supposed to wear?” 😅 You are definitely not alone.
This is hands down the most common question I get. And honestly, I get it. It can feel like a lot when you’re trying to get everyone dressed and make it all come together, especially if you have a larger family!
The good news is it really doesn’t have to be complicated. You don’t need to buy a whole new wardrobe or stress over every little detail.
I’m going to walk you through what to wear for family photos in a super simple way so your images feel natural, timeless, and easy.
Some things to consider when deciding what to wear for family photos: the season and the location of your session. Both of those play a big role in what will look best in your photos.
For example, in the spring, you’ll usually want to avoid too much green if you’re shooting in a nature setting. Everything is already super green, so you want a little contrast so you don’t just blend into the background.
Fall is a little different and is perfect for those warm, cozy tones. Think all the pumpkin spice colors…creams, browns, rusts, and soft oranges.
Overall, you want your colors to flow nicely together and feel coordinated without being too matchy. Remember we want to coordinate, not match!
Below is an example of a few color palettes that work really well together. If you need more ideas, Pinterest is full of inspiration to help you get started.
Pro tip – Once you’ve picked your color scheme, I always recommend mom choosing her outfit first. From there, you can easily coordinate everyone else around it!

One of the easiest ways to elevate your photos is by adding texture to your outfits.
Look for fabrics like:
Texture helps create dimension and keeps your photos from looking flat or overly posed.
Just had to throw this one in here again! Gone are the days of everyone wearing white shirts and jeans.
Instead, choose 2–3 colors and build each outfit around that palette. This creates a more natural, cohesive look without feeling too “matchy.”

This is the most important tip of all.
If you feel uncomfortable in what you’re wearing, whether it’s too tight, too loose, or just not “you”, it will show in your photos.
When you feel confident and comfortable, your photos will reflect that.
One of my favorite places to shop for moms is Joyfolie!

If you’re planning family photos with kids, here are a few extra tips:
And don’t stress if they don’t sit still. Some of the best moments come from the in-between.
While there’s no strict rulebook, there are a few things that don’t photograph well:
Keeping things simple goes a long way.
Choosing outfits for your family photos doesn’t have to be overwhelming.
Stick with neutral tones, add a little texture, coordinate your colors, and most importantly, wear something that makes you feel like yourself.
That’s what creates photos you’ll actually love for years to come.
